Keeping Our Children Safe at Swimming Pools This Summer:

The Guide to Safe Fun in the Sun

The long-awaited summer vacation has finally arrived, and swimming pools are turning into the ultimate playground for kids and teens. Amidst all the fun and enjoyment, it's important to prioritize the safety of our little swimmers. Here are some essential tips to ensure the safety of your children, so they all return home wet and happy 💦 ☺️

Active Supervision 👀

Assign a responsible adult to actively watch over the children while they're in the pool—full attention should be given, ready to dive in if needed. Avoid distractions such as smartphones or other social activities. Remember, an incident can occur silently and swiftly, so be present and attentive at all times. In some European countries, active supervision is even legally mandated!

Water Safety Education 🏊‍♂️

Teaching children about water safety is crucial. Start teaching them to swim at a young age and enroll them in swimming lessons guided by certified instructors. Encourage them to learn basic water skills like floating and swimming.

Pool Rules and Boundaries ❗

Establish clear and age-appropriate behavior rules for pool use. Teach children about the deep and shallow areas, the importance of no running near the pool to avoid slipping, and emphasize that they should always inform an adult when entering or exiting the pool.

Floatation Devices, Wheels, and Other Swim Aids 🌀

For young or inexperienced swimmers, they should stay in designated areas such as toddler pools or shallow sections. Wearing floatation devices is essential, but it doesn't substitute adult supervision.

Secure Pool Area 🚫

Ensure a secure pool area by installing a fence with a self-locking gate. This prevents unsupervised access and reduces the risk of children accidentally falling into the pool. Always keep the gate locked when the pool is not in use.

Sun Protection 😎☀️

During pool time, don't forget sun protection. Apply water-resistant sunscreen with a high SPF to exposed skin of children and reapply as needed. Encourage them to wear wide-brimmed hats and UV-protective swimwear for additional sun protection.

Let's make this summer a fun and safe experience, ensuring that every splash in the pool brings nothing but joy and cherished memories for our children
