Closing your swimming pool down for winter

Many pool owners are not sure when it is time to shut down the pool for the winter, and many make the decision just after winter is in full swing, rain has started to fall and cold temperatures are felt (every one of us has a small hope that he may keep using the pool “one more time” before winter hits).
Its’ never too late to realize that you may not use the pool in the upcoming months, so its’ recommended to take just few protected measures in order to make sure that the pool and equipment won’t damage during the off season.
In case you prefer keeping your pool full with water it is recommended to cover it and protect the area from access to children, pets and adults. Falling into a full pool, day or night may lead to drowning and death.
Then, in order to save energy and enlarge the life expectancy of the pool equipment it is recommended to set-it to winter mode by reducing the filter cycle time to the minimum and set the chlorine generator output to the minimum (Our unit automatically reduces chlorine production when recognizing cold water temperatures). Make sure that the electrical boxes and equipment are closed and sealed against rain and water ingress, in regions with freezing temperatures it is recommended to drain all the piping and equipment from water in order to prevent freeze damages.
In case you have pH-ORP system it is essential you make sure the sensors will not dry out, and that they are positioned immersed in water for winter time.
If the pool equipment is located in a chamber below pool level it is recommended to make sure the area is protected from water ingress and that the immersed safety pump on the chambers floor works properly.
After doing all the stages detailed above you can go to sleep in a warm place knowing the pool is safe and that the equipment will last longer.
